Celebrating Welsh Start Ups: Socialdice

20/02/23

Who doesn’t love a board game? In this week’s celebration of Welsh Start Ups, Business in Focus proudly presents Chris Grove and Ryan Davies who decided to take their passion for board games a step further and open Swansea’s first ever board game café, Socialdice on Wind Street.

Having lived in Swansea for many years and taking inspiration from game nights with friends, they decided to open a café where people could socialize and have game nights all under one roof. Socialdice also specializes in fresh food and drink for which ingredients are all sourced locally. They take pride in having a wide range of options to choose from, catering to everyone’s needs.

Chris and Ryan’s journey to success wasn’t all smooth. In their quest for the perfect location for their café, they were put to test with many obstacles, but didn’t anticipate anything as major as the lockdown. Chris and Ryan had to put their plans on hold and wait for the restrictions to ease to resume their plans.

Upon easing of the restrictions, they decided to approach Business Wales with their business plan. Business Wales recommended a virtual business course that covered topics including principles of business, marketing, cash flow forecasts and other topics that helped them cover the basics of starting a business. Chris and Ryan were then assigned a business advisor who helped them gain confidence in their idea and assist them with creating a detailed business plan. They said, “Our Business Wales advisor was a property expert who gave us great advice about dealing with landlords, estate agents and lease contracts which was invaluable to us!”

If you have a dream to create a business, Business in Focus can support you.
