In this week’s celebration of Welsh start-ups, we’re showcasing Nomadic Washrooms. Founded by Kate and Stu Richards, they specialise in the hire of luxury Shepherds Hut toilet and shower trailers.
When planning their wedding, Kate and Stu realised that there was a gap in the market for stylish, luxury toilet units for hire which motivated them towards establishing Nomadic Washrooms. Based in Mid Wales, they have recently won the Tourism and Leisure Start Up Award at the Start Up Awards Wales 2022.
Nomadic Washrooms went through multiple challenges with procuring finance and understanding waste disposal regulations, but one they were not the slightest bit prepared for was the pandemic. Having just launched the company, they were fully booked for the wedding season but due to Covid-19, they had to postpone all bookings. They were on the verge of losing hope, but Kate and Stu turned it around and were successful in securing a long-term contract with the BBC for the hire of their unit, and this ensured the business was able to operate during the pandemic.
With so many challenges to re-establish the business, Kate and Stu sought help from the Focus Newtown Enterprise Hub Team, who put them in touch with InSynch Digital Marketing, for some help with their Google Ads campaign. After making the recommended changes, their website saw a huge increase in engagement. They also attended workshops in the Hub and realised that it was a great space for networking with like-minded people. Kate and Stu are currently busy investing in more units and are working on growing their portfolio and hope to achieve a total of 16 units in their four-year business plan.
