Haverfordwest AFC are at the top of their game, competing in the highest league of Welsh football, Cymru Premier. Being eager to engage with their local community for the upcoming season, the perfect opportunity arose for the team to trial a community centre and showcase their merchandise at Shared Spaces Haverfordwest pop-up shop. Gareth, Shared Spaces Hub Manager was introduced to the Club management and Chairman, Robert Edwards at the Ogi Meadow Bridge Stadium to discuss the opportunity of working together and gain a deeper understanding of the Clubs aim.
Following positive conversations and a period of preparation, the Club opened its doors to ‘The Nest’ on 13th August 2022 to the launch of 40 people and was filmed by S4C’s popular TV program following Welsh football, Sgorio. The Nest is a one-stop shop for fans, businesses and community members to discover more about the Clubs community programme.
The Club have recently teamed up with ‘Aspire 2Be’ who focus on developing digital skills in businesses and education across the region. This has given young entrepreneur Kian Devine of ‘That Football Drawing’ an opportunity to collaborate and sell his merchandise in-store, which includes bespoke mugs and prints.
Shared Spaces Haverfordwest will continue to work alongside Haverfordwest AFC to develop their community outreach, development and growth of the club.
Wynhdam Williams, Community Manager says “This exciting new project will act as a one-stop shop for fans, businesses and community members to find out more about the Club’s community programme, providing an opportunity to get involved and support the development and future growth of the Club. It will also be a place that people can visit to purchase Club merchandise, including mugs and prints. It’s great to work with Shared Spaces Haverfordwest and Business in Focus to trial this new project in the town.”
