Start Up Loans
Start Up Loans are now available for entrepreneurs looking to start a business in Wales through the Start Up Loans Company.
The Start Up Loans Company is a UK-wide, government backed scheme, which offers a repayable loan to individuals over the age of 18 who have a viable business but no access to finance. The scheme funds businesses in every sector. As well as financial backing all loan recipients are given access to a mentor, free training events and exclusive business offers.

Kick Start - available to new businesses or businesses in their first 12 months of trading. Business grants are available between £250 - £1000 and are match funded at a rate of 50% of the project cost. Only capital items are eligible. All sectors are considered for this business grant. Special Regeneration Fund (SRF) - flexible grant scheme providing small and medium sized businesses with a 'customer-led' approach to funding opportunities. Projects considered could include investment in capital equipment, specialist software, website design, marketing and refurbishment of business premises. The funding offers up to 40% of grant support for approved project costs up to a maximum of £5,000. The minimum grant amount will be £1,000. Full details and eligibility criteria can be found here.

Start Up Business Grant
Grants of up to £1,500 are available from Newport City Council and UK Steel Enterprise to pre start ups and businesses up to 12 months old.
The grant is available to pre-start up businesses and SMEs (under 250 employees). Companies, partnerships, sole traders and social enterprises are all eligible.

Grants of up to £1,500 per eligible element are available from Newport

Vacant Commercial Floor Space Grant
A grant intended to help businesses with the cost of the first year’s
rental of premises or additional commercial space in Newport City
Centre and its district shopping centres.
