Keeping positive

Why is it that our TV commentators wake up in the morning with just one single thought –
“I mustn’t find anything nice to say today!!”

Even when introducing a ‘good news’ item or commentating on a win by some sports team, they always have to find some barbed comment to make or damn by faint praise the individual or team that they are commenting upon.

It was refreshing to see the way that the Australian Prime Minister, Kevin Rudd, handled such an attitude from Andrew Marr on his Sunday morning show. It is time that the media was taken to task over its cynical “my glass is half empty” attitude to life.

If confidence is so vital to helping guide us out of the recession – then the media needs a serious rethink about its role in that process.
