As Gordon Brown prepares for a hectic round of meetings with the Heads of the World Bank, IMF, European members of the G20 and even the Pope – I can’t help but reflect upon whether the average small business owner believes that the outcomes of these meetings will have any impact upon the day to day problems facing their business.
Will the decisions taken at the G20 Summit in London free up funding from their bank? Will it result in the public starting to buy their products or services? Will their customers now start manufacturing at pre 2008 levels of output?
Perhaps more importantly what will happen if there are no decisions taken at the G20 Summit and we are faced with the spectre of global protectionism!
One thing is certain – there needs to be a feeling that something good and positive will come out of the G20 Summit. Perhaps then the media will start to look for and help nurture those little ‘green shoots of hope’ that we need to see if the economy is going to start turning around. Rather than the ‘joy’ they seem to get from identifying yet another problem – actual or perceived!
Perhaps then when we get out of bed in the morning and switch on the news we will feel like going out into the world with a smile on our faces.
What do you think?
